There are two things about living at the ocean that are different than most anywhere else. One moment the air is warm, the sky is blue and it is a perfect day and in the next a bank of fog is rolling in, the wind switches directions, cool air marches on shore and if you look off in the distance the clouds from the next storm are coming your way. It is like you stand there, dreading what is coming next but helpless to stop it. Reality is that the sunshine doesn't last forever. The other thing is that when that storm passes, you will be the first to know it. You can call your friends in Seattle and tell them that in 3 or 4 hours they may have sunshine too.
Yesterday people were actually playing in the ocean and sunbathing on the beach - in February. In the Pacific Northwest, no less. Pretty incredible. The only thing to do, once those clouds appeared on the horizon, was to continue walking until dark - enjoy every last second.
My day started early, first with a peregrine falcon and then with an Eagle. Those are the things that I enjoy about living here. The cold wind and rain are another story. I'm battling the flu. It has been 10 days now and I still have headaches and nausea. I knew that going outside wasn't such a good idea but surely couldn't help myself. So I still struggle. But my car should be done tomorrow and then the moving and adventure begins. Or, right after a trip down to Portland anyway.
